How it Began

Our Mission

The mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Central Valley is to provide a home away from home and resources for the families of hospitalized children.

Our Vision

The families staying at RMHC Central Valley will experience a comfortable, calm, and nurturing place to maintain a family bond during a difficult time.

The Ronald McDonald House of the Central Valley opened in Fresno on Millbrook Avenue in 1984. We were the fourth RMHC to open their doors in California. The new facility was started with a great deal of excitement and support from the local community, and especially the new partnership with Valley Children’s Hospital. As the hospital grew, so did the need to provide a larger facility for our families. On February 14, 2001; we expanded to an 18 bedroom Ronald McDonald House located adjacent to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, CA. In 2019, our organization celebrated 35 years of service in the Central Valley!

Growth has been our middle name since our start. We have created several new and accommodating programs that help make our House a Home. In 2013, we opened our Day Room Service, which gives our wait-listed families the ability to rest, shower, and enjoy a home cooked meal. In 2019, we were able to serve an additional 640 families with the Day Room.

Our Meals from the Heart Program provides our families the opportunity to eat a warm, home cooked meal after a long day of enduring a stressful hospital environment.  In 2019, this program generated 543 meals, averaging to at least one home cooked meal for our families every day. This program is also a great opportunity for groups from our community to give back to our families.  For more information on how to get involved in this program, check out the Meals from the Heart tab under the “Get Involved” tab on our home page.

Each year, hundreds of families stay at the Ronald McDonald House of the Central Valley. We rely solely on the generosity of the community to provide for our families and the opportunity to continue to expand our services to those when they need it the most. We could not continue #KeepingFamiliesClose without your tireless dedication and support.
