We started with One. One little girl diagnosed with cancer. One family needing support. One doctor that felt it was necessary to help. One community that rallied together. One team and organization that partnered to see it through.
We wouldn’t be here without them or without you.
The first Ronald McDonald House of the Central Valley opened on Millbrook Ave. in 1984. We were the 4th RMHC to open their doors in California. The new facility was started with a great deal of excitement and support from the local community, and especially the new partnership with Valley Children’s Hospital. As the hospital grew, so did the need to provide a larger facility for our families. We are the “House that Love Built” so naturally, on February 14, 2001; we expanded to an 18 bedroom Ronald McDonald House located adjacent to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, CA.
Growth has been our middle name since our start. We have created several new and accommodating programs that help make our House a Home. In 2013, we opened our Day Room Service, which gives our wait-listed families the ability to rest, shower, and eat a home cooked meal. We are always growing thanks to our tireless volunteers, generous donors, and committed staff to ensure we are able to serve our families. In 2014, we were able to serve an additional 221 families with the Day Room.
Another program that highly impacts the hundred of families we serve each year is the Meals from the Heart Program. This program provides our families the opportunity to eat a warm, home cooked meal after a long day of enduring beeping machines and a stressful hospital environment. This program generated a whopping 380 meals in the 2016 calendar year, averaging to atleast one yummy, home cooked meal for our families EVERY DAY. This program is also a great opportunity for groups from our local community to give back to our families. For more information on how to get your friends, family, co-workers, church groups, or community groups involved, check out the Meals from the Heart tab under the “Get Involved” tab on our home page.
Each year hundreds of families stay at the Ronald McDonald House of the Central Valley. We rely solely on the generosity of the community to provide for our families and the opportunity to continue to expand our services to those when they need it the most. We could not continue #KeepingFamiliesClose without your tireless dedication and support.
